Today, I want to talk about career counseling and education in Korea. For my part, I had no idea, over twenty, about which job I was going to pursue because I was not only interested in study at all but also in planning my future. Then, I tried to find a job which corresponds with my aptitude but I don’t even know what is my aptitude. I felt like drifting on the vast ocean without a compass. That was June, 2009. But now, 2017, the school system of career counseling and education has changed a lot. There are three salient things that differ from the past. First of all, Free-semester system, of which purpose is to make students experience many job in the real work place and search their aptitude, is implemented as a duty since 2016. Second, all schools should at least have one teacher who is the expert in career counseling and some place which students can use when they want to take consult with the teacher. Lastly, the internet site, Career Net, has well developed and is easily available. Now, the site offer aptitude-test, vocational information, and on-line counseling service. These changes are really attracting my gaze because I decided to become a teacher to help students who get lost like what I was.
